Khazana Exhibition- Jewels from Sindh

Thank you all for visiting our stall and supporting our rural communities

The Khazana exhibition that took place at the Forum from the 25th 27th March 2011 was a huge success and was met with an overwhelming response from the public. The event was a good platform to market the rural handicrafts that the women artisans of Khazana have been working day and night to put together.  IRC had brought the artisans to Karachi so that they could see firsthand how well their efforts were being appreciated.

The four women artisans had never been to Karachi. Mariam Solangi and her daughter-in-law had never dreamed that the womenfolk who created intricate rillis for use at home could also contribute to the meager earnings of their men and thus try to survive in these days of high food inflation.  From a conservative household, she is so proud to tell her men, “you have kept us inside the four walls all our lives. Now let us prove that we can work and contribute in financial terms too.” She was seen giving an interview to one of the popular TV channels, and urging her daughter-in-law to speak.
The exhibition showcased mostly Sindhi handicrafts such as patchwork (rilli), hand embroidered clothes,
table-mats, coasters, baskets made from khajji tree bark and ceramic items from Multan.

IRC wishes to thank all those who made this exhibition a success and we are proud to say that we will be holding many more exhibitions in the near future.  Please keep checking this website for more updates.
