NEWS and EVENTS

As one of the implementation partners of Links to Learning (ED-LINKS) project, IRC initiated its role in 11 districts of Sindh, including Jamshoro, Mirpurkhas, Tharparkar, Sanghar, Nawabshah Dadu, Shikarpur, Kashmore, Jacobabad, Sukkur and Khairpur. Nearly 300 schools are currently under assessment in Sindh by the project that aims to improve the quality and sustainability of teacher education and student performance. 30 girls from rural Khairpur from IRC's school system have passed matriculation examination in 2008.

Indus Resource Centre (IRC) is a civil society organization aimed at empowering the and mainstreaming the marginalized communities of rural Sindh in Pakistan.
At the heart of everything we do is the desire for helping communities in bringing out positive change in their lives.
The five key programmes we focus on are Participatory Governance, Education and Literacy, Economic Initiatives, Rural Physical Infrastructure, and Disaster Response.
 
 

PARTICIPATORY GOVERNANCE

The program focuses on capacity building of community
based grassroots organizations in order to increase their planning and advocacy skills in accessing public/private services to improve the quality of life in rural areas of Sindh. The program also focuses on the capacity building of elected representatives and citizens involved in development work.

 
 

EDUCATION AND LITERACY

One of the major areas of IRC’s support to the communities is in the field of elementary and primary education. IRC pursues an integrated three-pronged strategy including the creation of cost effective and easily replicable quality education models, collaborating with the government to improve public education facilities with the allocated resources and the advocacy and creation of an enabling educational environment.

 
 

ECONOMIC INITIATIVES

This program focuses on enhancing the skills and scope of generating income of communities through capacity building and micro credit.This program has a great variety as it follows a holistic approach including social mobilisation, managerial and entrepreneurial capacity building and vocational skills enhancement particularly for women.

 
 

RURAL PHYSICAL INFRASTRUCTURE

The Programm encompasses a wide variety of construction and rehablitation of rural infrastrucuture scheme through community participation. Some example are Underground Village Drainage Schemes, Community Latrines, Water Course Lining, Tube Wells, Brick Pavement of village streets , repairs and expansion of schools and basic health units etc.
 
 

DISASTER RESPONSE

Under the Disaster Response Program IRC had been distributing food and non-food items, providing medical services, shelter and livelihood support to flood affected communities. In addition to relief and rehabilitation, recently two important components of Disaster Preparedness and Disaster Risk Redution have been included to cover both preventive and curative aspects.
