RURAL INFRASTRUCTURE PROGRAM

This program consists of a variety of rural physical infrastructure schemes to uplift both economic and social sectors. The key to its success is intensive community mobilization as the community including the women plays a crucial role in identification, design, resource mobilization, construction and maintenance. Recently completed or on-going major projects are as under:

1: Community Physical Infrastructure schemes in villages of Khairpur and Jamshoro Districts such as tube wells, water course lining, underground village sewerage system etc. The community groups are trained to keep accounts and maintain the facilities.

2: Repairs and rehabilitation of 190 schools in flood affected areas of Kambar-Shahdadkot and Dadu. Out of this total, water and sanitation systems were made functional in 75 schools in phase one and 40 in phase two. Similarly, a project for repairs, construction and rehabilitation of water and sanitation facilities in 128 Government Girls’ Schools in Khairpur is going-on.

3: Schools construction, repairs and expansion in IRC run schools in Khairpur and Jamshoro Districts and similar work in IRC’s adopted Government Boys Schools is a continuous activity. Village Education Committees play a vital role in supervision of this work.
