PARTICIPATORY GOVERNANCE

IRC's democratic governance program aims at strengthening grassroots institutions, increasing awareness of development issues and rights, and assisting communities in exercising their rights.

It works closely with partner community organizations of the area as they are the basic building blocks of civil society. IRC’s human and institutional development efforts have enabled partner organizations to manage their organizations effectively and play a positive role in development of their respective areas.
At present, IRC has a network of 12 local organizations in district Khairpur and 18 in district Jamshoro and Dadu including 6 female organisations. Numerous other partner community groups focusing on credit, education or sanitation are in addition to these registered organizations.

Under the program, the following goals are ensured:

The core theme is Human and Institutional Development (HID) at the grassroots level which ultimately leads to mainstreaming the marginalized. The mechanism to work for Human and Institutional Development (HID) is capacity building through the following interventions:

  • Trainings, workshops and seminars
  • Research and action research
  • Networking
  • Advocacy

These interventions also assist in empowering partner organizations in bringing positive changes in the attitudes and development of their communities. IRC's institutional and individual capacity building efforts have also enabled the partner organizations to manage their organizations effectively in order to play a positive role in the development of their area.

INSTITUTIONAL STRENGTHENING OF GRASSROOT ORGANIZATIONS:

This is the core program of IRC. In fact, this is the basis of IRC's existence.
IRC builds human and institutional capacity of its partner Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and also organizes training workshops for non-partner CSOs occasionally.
IRC implements all its programs through partner CSOs and has also facilitated networking between its partner CSOs and donors. The training workshops focus on the basics of CSO Management, Financial Management, Strategic Planning, Advanced Training on CSO Management and Project Proposal Writing.
Six monthly partnership meetings to review the development context and challenges is a regular component of IRC's programs.

SUPPORT TO DEVOLUTION:

IRC has been involved in the education and sensitization of voters and training of women councilors. The organization seeks opportunities of interacting and sensitizing councilors on development issues.
